Owl - Big Magic Book

This little guy is one of the forest creatures in the Big Magic Book. One design rules we set up for the forest animals was the use of wacky colors. A red owl, green beaver, and a purple frog are the results of that guideline.

Here’s a side view of the owl. As you can see, we stuck to a very basic shape that served for the head and body of the puppet. His feet are actually separate pieces, that allow the puppeteer to “waddle” him across a tree branch or on whatever he happens to perch.

Stee Vee Sighting

This just in…Stee Vee was sighted tonight, after a supposedly minor malfunction, outside of the Big Magic Book and allegedly terrorizing small children. It appears the small human was prepared for the attack of the fictitious character, as he was wearing standard issue combat attire and was apparently showing his teeth as a sign of aggression. Read more about it on the Big Magic Book Production Blog.

Stee Vee - Big Magic Book

Stee Vee the T.V. version 2.0 is Wizbang’s robot assistant. Wizbang built him out of materials he had lying around the laboratory. Of course, one second after Stee Vee was completed his technology was obsolete. He lives in constant fear of being upgraded, a task that Wizbang remembers just often enough to keep Stee Vee worried.

Stee Vee was made from a variety of everyday items - a vacuum cleaner hose, a foam ball, a couple of U-bolts, some reticulated foam and thin styrene plastic sheets. His body is actually a lettuce crisper found on sale at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $3.50. Stee Vee was a real challenge to build, but in the end we think he turned out just great. Stee Vee is also equipped with a few “robot” surprises, including a working lightbulb on his back and a remote-controlled flip top head which reveals a small television screen.
