Character: The original story of The Frog Prince didn't happen the way we read it. We know the story where the princess kisses the frog for returning her golden ball and he turns into the prince (Prince Ambrose). The happy new couple gets married and lives happily ever after.
When I was a kid I enjoyed the original stories, not the happily ever afters. So let me tell you a little bit about the original story Iron Henry. The princess breaks her promise to the frog even after he brought her ball back. Instead of kisses the princess throws the frog against the wall in disgust at the mere thought of kissing a frog.
Unfortunately for my poor frog Herbert, he heard the story of the Frog Prince and thought he would be showered with kisses. Herbert wasn't put under a spell by a witch but was impersonating Prince Ambrose. When Herbert brought the princess her golden ball out of the well and asked for his kiss, she threw him against the wall. To her surprise he didn't turn into a prince...he stayed a frog.
Technical: Herbert was one of the top ten finalists in the Once Upon A Puppet Contest held in 2007 right here at Project Puppet.
