Ginny Greenteeth - The Roly Puppet Pattern

Builder: Gordon Smuder
Pattern: The Roly Puppet Pattern

Character: Every fairy tale or legend is only as good as it's villain. In legend, the Swamp Hag was the mother of Grendel, the walker of the outlands, in the story of Beowulf.

In European folklore, she has many names...Wicked Jenny, Peg O'Nell, Peg Powler...but most know her as Ginny Greenteeth...the oily-haired, magical ne'er-do-well most notable for her habit of dragging small children to drown in murky waters.

This version of the classic swamp hag is as wicked as they come. She enjoys the fine dining afforded by plump children, but only after they've "softened a bit" under a dead log or in a pile of stagnant algae. While her face is something even her own mother could never love, her voice is lilting and full of comfort...a perfect method of attracting her favorite food. When children are lost and terrified in the swamp they come willingly to the beautiful voice in the darkness. A voice so lovely, they rarely notice the stench of death about.

Technical: Ginny Greenteeth was one of the top ten finalists and the Grand Prize Winner in the Once Upon A Puppet Contest held in 2007 right here at Project Puppet.
